Hal’s Thoughts For The Week Of August 2

WINNIPEG — If you missed my column last week, I was down 120 pounds and on my way to Toronto for Gastric Sleeve surgery. I’m happy to report the surgery went well and I’m back home now enjoying broth and pudding for the next few weeks. I’d like to thank Dr. Chris Cobourn and everyone at Centric Health Surgical Centre and Smartshape Weight Loss Centre. I especially enjoyed Maria! She was definitely the comic relief, teasing me with a Tim Hortons coffee when I first met her and cheering me on as I took my first steps after the surgery. As my friend Charles Adler said on Twitter, this is a new lease on life for me and I intend to make the most of it. I’ll try not to bore you with too many details but I will keep you posted on the progress of my weight loss.

While my wife Jackie and I were in TO, Hershey was living it up at Sprockett’s Doggy Day Camp. What a great place! We love how they take lots of pics everyday so no matter where you are, you can always go online and see that your mutt is having fun and making new friends.

There’s some excitement in Bomberland again after an important victory in Edmonton. What the Big Blue need now is some wins in a row. Lets hope that streak starts tomorrow night against the Ti-Cats. And it won’t hurt to have Clarence Denmark back among the receivers.

The next big superfood could be…cockroach milk! And I thought Kale was gross! A group of scientists in India say milk from the Pacific beetle cockroach will be the next big thing as it’s four times as nutritious as cow’s milk and contains a unique form of protein that releases energy slowly over a long period of time.

I can’t believe how this Pokemon Go game has blown up. I’m probably one of the few people not playing it. I’ve never really used my phone to play games. There’s now even a Pokemon Go course being taught at the University of Idaho. Anyone paying attention in class will automatically fail.

It’s a short week so get out there and enjoy it!
