Hal’s Thoughts For The Week Of November 1st

Happy Halloween! I’ll begin this week by showing off the pumpkins my wife Jackie and I carved. Mine is on the left, hers is on the right…

Kathy Kennedy I’m really excited to announce that Kathy Kennedy has joined the MyToba team. I’ve known KK for as long as I’ve been in Winnipeg, almost 30 years. We became good friends working together in radio news. We found ourselves at the same station again a few years ago but that didn’t last long. I’m hoping we’ll have a good long run together here at MyToba. We have lots of cool stuff planned, so stay tuned.

You can file this one under Hal Knows A Guy. I’m normally very careful with my cell phones but I cracked a screen the other day. A friend recommended Hi-Tech Cellular & Computer. So I went to see Mamun Rashid at Hi-Tech and he had me making calls again the same day for under $100. He fixed my sticky home button too. Thanks Mamun! Hi-Tech is at 1039 McPhillips. But Mamun tells me he’s opening a second location very soon at 346 Portage.

The Bombers lost to Ottawa on Saturday, their last regular season game at IGF. But I’m okay with it. Don’t get me wrong, a win would have been better. But now it looks like they’ll be starting the playoffs on the road, and let’s face it, the Bombers have played a lot better away from home this season.

My friend Chef Barbara O’Hara of Dessert Sinsations would like me to remind everyone that this year’s Gold Medal Plates event is almost here. It’s at the RBC Convention Centre Wednesday, November 9th. GMP is a fundraiser for our Olympic athletes, but it’s also a competition that could see a Winnipeg chef crowned the Canadian Culinary Champ in Kelowna, BC in early February.

Have a great week!
