For more than 30 years,
I’ve watched City Hall closely and discussed the happenings there with you on radio, on TV and in print. Some years have been better than others at 510-Main Street but I don’t think it’s ever been as bad as it is right now. Entire sections of Winnipeg aren’t being heard. If I’m elected councillor in Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood, residents of the ward will definitely be heard, I promise that. I’ll be a very strong member of council who prides himself on working well with others to get things done. While many issues facing the city are complex and will require a lot of time and effort, others it seems to me are more simple and only require some common sense. I think it’s time for more common sense at City Hall.
Crime is my top priority. You need to feel safe again in your home, in your neighbourhood and when you visit other parts of Winnipeg. The streets you travel on need to be better too. There’ll always be potholes and we need to fix them but I think this spring showed us just how bad it can get when we don’t properly invest in our roads and infrastructure. And my third priority for the ward is our green spaces and tree canopy. Both must be protected and preserved. I also want to mention homelessness here. It’s one of those complex issues but I’m convinced we need less talk and more action on this. I grew up and began my career with very little. So I know what it’s like to be a paycheque or two away from living on the street. Transit riders need their bus shelters back but as a city, we need to do more to put a roof over the heads of our homeless, while also ensuring their dignity.
I hope I have your vote on October 26th. And if I don’t yet, I hope I can earn it. I'll work hard to make this community all it can be. I’m always available to talk by phone, my personal cell is 204-298-4001. You can also reach me by email at Hal@HalAnderson.ca. And I’m easy to find on social media as well…
